Although we have been instrumental in the initiation of a Post Adoption Service
in Worcestershire,we are still striving to improve the services available to adoptive
families
To educate Professionals
It is a sad fact that many of us will, in the course of raising our children, come into
contact with several professional bodies, i.e. Social Services, Education Authorities,
Health Authorities, Police, Criminal Justice Services and the Youth Offending Team, etc.
We are aware that there is still a long way to go before parents will be able to approach
professional bodies and meet with total understanding and empathy. To this end WASGAP, in
conjunction with Worcestershire Social Services, organised a very successful multi-agency
Conference in May 2003 led by
Dan Hughes PhD, the acclaimed psychologist from America, to promote improved care and
understanding of the special needs of the adopted child
To educate and support Families
Through the website, we aim to end the isolation felt by adoptive parents and to encourage
self-education. When families are put in touch with us, we are concerned at the numbers of
parents who feel they are to blame for the difficulties they are experiencing. It is only
through self-education and communication with other adoptive families that they realise
their problems are endemic.
To give our children the best possible chance to become happy and
well-adjusted members of society!
