Informing & consulting parents
Schools & early years providers must inform parents when they are making special educational provision for their child.
They must keep them fully informed and parental views must be encouraged and valued.
Why are parents important?
They know their children
They are experts when it comes to their own child's needs
This knowledge and experience makes parents vital partners in provision
Parental Contribution
Key Areas:
When a parent is concerned about a child's progress
Where a school or setting feels that a child may have Special Educational Needs
Individual Education Planning discussions
Review meetings
When a request for Statutory Assessment is made
Befrienders
PPS has a team of volunteers who act as befrienders, in different areas of the county. A befriender will work
with parents giving independent information, supporting them at meetings and reviews and ensuring they have the
opportunity to make their contribution.
Anti-nits to Zero Tolerance
The Parent Partnership Service provides information and support for all parents on any non-curriculum related issues.
