RAGLEY HALL FAMILY PICNIC
Sunday 7th September 2003
Ragley Hall is the family home of the Marquess and Marchioness of Hertford. It has beautiful
grounds and is a perfect setting for the WASGAP annual picnic.
We arrived at Ragley Hall to discover that there was a gardeners' event on in the grounds.
This proved to be a real bonus to the day, not only because many of us bought reasonably
priced plants for our gardens (or even a rather large tree..), but the admission price
was reduced on this day!
We gathered on the large grassy area between the Adventure Playground and the lake. Everyone
arranged their chairs and picnic rugs and settled down to what was a brilliant afternoon for
all. There were children from toddlers to tall teenagers. Some were renewing old friendships,
whilst others met for the first time. They spent their time mostly in the adventure
playground, which had something to interest all ages. The maze was particularly popular
and very useful if you wanted to lose the watchful eyes of your parents for a while! They
returned only for the occasional game of football, for refreshment - or for money!
A few energetic members took advantage of the lovely walks to exercise their dog (and to wear
out the children!) However, most of us chose to relax in the sunshine. It was a great
opportunity to get together with other parents, to have time to talk, and to share experiences.
It was fascinating to just sit and watch our children play!
A great day came to an end all too soon, and one enjoyed by all who attended. We look forward to
next year's picnic.
